Why is this airplane upside down? Emergency landing on rough terrain with fixed gear hanging down often results in a flipped airplane. One feature of the Lance is retractable gear which can be “cleaned up” before an emergency landing and increase your chances of staying shiny side up. I know these things aren’t pleasant to think about, but preparing for emergency is a large part of flying…especially in Alaska.
