So we haven’t had a working oven since we got home. Have made do with buying bread for occasional sandwiches, but what do you do when a birthday rolls around? Necessity is the mother of invention, right? So when Jared’s choice was carrot cake, I decided to see how well the temperature in the closed […]
Especially enjoyed the dances presented by groups from various villages – they explained the meanings/stories, then performed each dance. It was also noted that the dance following a funeral potlatch is meant to “uplift those who lost someone.” They begin with memorial dances, then move to fun dances. We also admired beautiful beadwork by Bernadette […]

Got home Saturday night, June 7. The next Saturday through Monday, 13-15th, turned out to be James’ annual Copper River red salmon (sockeye) dip-netting trip with friends (got back just in time!). Praising God for, once again, full limit plus two supplements, for a total of (almost) 50 fish (there’s a story there). Don’t have […]
Yesterday, as I was talking to a new-to-the-Bible Bee mom who just moved to Alaska – specifically, Fairbanks – at the end of January, I was reminded of so many things that tend to be forgotten once you’ve lived here for a while. Things that are so surreal, that it is hard to explain them […]
Why is this airplane upside down? Emergency landing on rough terrain with fixed gear hanging down often results in a flipped airplane. One feature of the Lance is retractable gear which can be “cleaned up” before an emergency landing and increase your chances of staying shiny side up. I know these things aren’t pleasant to […]

Sunday night: Destruction Bay, Yukon Territory! 5 of 6 full consecutive travel days down! We enter Alaska tomorrow and “land” in Palmer at InterAct’s campus, ready for a couple of down days before our field conference runs the 4th-7th. Then the final leg will be 6.5 hrs to home on Saturday!
